That shawl turned out fantastic! I knit for my mom quite a bit too. She'll wear anything I give to her! I can't remember if I told you this story already, but the very very first piece of lace I knit was a little pink mohair scarf. I was working on it at school and when I brought it home, my mom grabbed it and basically said, 'MINE!' So I just handed it over. Pink isn't my color anyway.

Also, that cross stitch piece kicks ass! Was that something you did freehand? So cute and snarky at the same time. :D

I love your handwriting on that tag! And you are very good at giving instructions. I haven't tried that yarn before, but I used her wool/silk blend and found it very nice to work with. Maybe I wouldn't hate cotton so much if it was blended with wool. Plus I'm always looking for good summer yarns. I might have to look into this one!

I use a top whorl myself... if you can call a trindle any kind of whorl at all. I really enjoy using it. I want to get heavier beads for it, or try other spindles though. I wonder if I like top whorl because that's what I first tried...

This is a great tutorial, and the pics are not just pretty, they're informative!

I learned to spindle spin without a leader, and this is the same way I have started a spindle spun yarn since then, and it is what I teach my spinning students to do. Your yarn is looking beautiful, keep up the great work!

What an ordeal! And what a face! hahahahaaa! I'm glad you were able to get him down without hurting yourself in the process. I had a similar experience with Phoebe once. She had gotten herself up in the rafters of the back porch. So I retrieved the step stool, but she was just out of my grasp. So I got the ladder, climbed up, and got one hand on her but she wiggled away and scampered across the beam. I recall desperately needing to pee, but I did not want to abandon her. So I went back up, grabbed her and stuffed her under my arm and down we went. But it's likely that she could've gotten herself down, if she'd tried. I don't think she needed my help. And she was probably making that same face.
